Opium Wars - Imperialism in China

T
he first drug war of the 19th century started off when the British gave china opium which was told healed many sickness. In return china would give the British tea. Great Britain didn't want to trade the gold and silver because of its rarity so they introduces opium to china by taking some from India. China agreed and because opium was highly addictive and was a drug. China wanted a more extravagant amount. After the Chinese population drowned out of opium addiction the drug became illegal to sell with out medical purposes. The black markets all around china still sold opium because more kept arriving from the British. The emperor started to destroy opium selling companies and take control of his empire. Soon the British attacked china with canons from war boats. China had lost many cities in the strikes and became aggressive as well, but lacked the fire power to compete with the British. China was defeated and signed the Treaty of Nanjing nobly. The issue was still present and later on China would go into another Opium war.

Film Lesson: "Mountains of the Moon"

- In the film "Mountains of the Moon", what were some of the hardships that Europeans faced as they explored Africa?

The Europeans as they searched for the "source of the Nile" faced malaria which being passed around by mosquitoes infected and killed. Sometimes there were native African tribes living along the desert waiting for ambushing travelers(why many people did not cross the desert). The bugs and insects amount the desert such as large scarabs and scorpions would painfully attack during the night.

- why is it strange that the source of the Nile River, (Lake Victoria - the third largest lake in the world) is named after a British Queen?

The Lake Victoria which in no way is close the Britain was and still today has not been changed to a more formal name. As its original founders were African villages which were near the lake. As the third largest lake it should be changed as it is a major landmark, but since most of Africa was conquered by the British the name of Victoria still exists upon the lake.

- what was the primary technological advantage that Europeans had over African people? Why were Europeans eventually able to conquer Africa so easily?

Europe was far more advanced in weaponry and forms of materials. Europe would later find a cure for malaria AND research the building of machine guns. The new discoveries of Europe would later leave the shields of African warriors broken, the warriors them selves killed and forced into slavery for the new world.

Imperialism Project

~poor Africa, it gets conquered

Imperialism

Capitalists explore and conquer other countries during economic domination. Bigger militarized central governments dominate smaller countries. That which we have learned about, during the discovery of the new world countries saw the growing idea as a new beginning and began growing colonies. While many couldn't have total control overseas, revolutionary movements started building. Meanwhile during industrialism many native slaves of America died because of diseases and sicknesses brought by the Spaniards and British. The merchandising and marketing income rose greatly while slaves were now being brought from Africa to run the factories. Medical advances led to many conquering most of Africa. Riots and breakdown of economy broke all over Africa. In our project i have learned the merchandising of gold and silver from the new world made many rich. Spices and others were traded from the Chinese by fooling them which later lead to war against Great Britain. Many other countries grew and started using imperialism to devour other countries. Such as Spain which traveled to the new world and conquered most of the south. Spain also managed to gather into Africa and with more fire power then the Africans, it was obvious what had happened. Soon most of the middle east, Europe, New World and Africa were imperialist centralized governments, which would not last very long because of the great distances from the controlling countries.

Karl Marx and Communism

art work done by BenHeine

What is Communism?

Communism was originally a socialist idea made by a German philosopher Karl Marks. After learning deeply about human nature and social philosophy, he introduced communism When belief of a perfected government system was destroyed by the industrial revolution and capitalism many countries would take in the communist theory for a more successful economy. The thing is it turned out to have many problems with the system. Karl believed that communism would over power capitalist as capitalism overpowered feudalism. The reason is that society had grown into the big picture. In fact the picture became too big so every one in society to be fare would all have the same salary and so every thing is limited. Houses and most things are controlled by the government and even became dictatorships. Mostly the plan was not thought through as it was a way to get rid of the industrial revolution and did not cause a big solution to capitalism nor did it grow greatly, but thanks to Mark's support many unions and protests later the government had finally made a change. The most successful idea which made the society have a big come back was when president Theodor Roosevelt made a idea which gavee many people jobs and wich paid well for the hard working conditions.

Karl Marx and The Industrial Revolution

Art work done by spamiscool

Industrial revolution and the creation of communism.

Industrialization

Industrial Revolution was a time period where new inventions were being created, factories, manufacturing and other things led to a new era. This started in Europe, America and soon every other country that wanted to grow into a city. Trees were cut down for more buildings. Smaller buildings were set aside into apartment complexes. Other places were made into factories and mansions for the rich people. In the eyes of many the world was growing into a brighter easier life, but in reality the people behind this change weren't the rich people who could afford mansions. No, the people who made it all possible are the factory workers that worked in mills, assembly lines, the rail roads, mining and merchandising to mas produce over seas. The world soon grew but the conditions and dangers grew as well. What mostly started as a overgrowth of ideas soon ended.

Protests and Unions

As workers conditions became repetitive and dangerous many people started unions. Families couldn't provide for each other and had to send their children away to their relatives. Children were no longer aloud to work as many were not well educated enough. Even though children weren't aloud to work for long hours many who needed jobs badly to help the family would work for little amounts of time. The sad part was the children who now didn't have jobs couldn't even go to school because the lack of money. The protests began, communism started to grow. A way of life style which would look like utopia for people during the great depressions and economic let downs would send many protestants to believe in communism as a form of state. Communism was a idea made by Marx to give equal amount of money to every residents workers. If the workers worked harder then other workers, in a communist country they would gain the same salary as any other profession. Doctors and store clerks raised the same amount of money and the only change was the doctor would have more vacation time and such. This form of controlling the state would be great during the economic decline but if a doctor wanted to be in such a position he would rather go to a different economy where he would get more pay. Thus the plans of the communist society started to shatter. Down flaws and more the only sane thing that was left to do was to create unions. Sure many died but they still would strike because with out the workers the bosses of the companies were useless. They were nothing with out the workers and soon this was shown to the government by many union formations and protests. The government had no choice but to change. There might not be a perfect way of handling all situations, but then again there is no such thing as perfection. Only the greater will of some kind of bad situation. With out wrong how could we see right?

Hernan Cortes- 12/2/1547

A Spanish conqueror who took over the Aztec empire and parts of Mexico in the name of a Castile kingdom. He wanted so badly to go to America as it was called the new world full of opportunities even for lower noble classes. The conquistador first moved near Cuba and Hispaniola. Soon he was chosen to go to the mainland in a conquest as a captain. Over throwing and beating Cuba's governor in a war Hernan was acknowledged. Not many people would know much about his ambitions though. These indefinite ideas about who Cortes really was turned some to idolize him and others to ignore or even hating him.

After being turned into Mexico's governor Hernan went to Honduras to claim it under Cuba. Later Cortes put the Cuban leader under arrest and soon his power had grown. Many high authorities started plotting against Cortes. Some like the governor of Cuba who Cortes wanted to arrest would try finding wrong in Cortez's conduct. New Spain would soon take away Cortes from the office governor. Cortes soon returned to Spain to settle the decree. After changing the situation Spain would find that Cortes gave more then he should of to the Empire and gave him the title of "Marqués del Valle de Oaxaca". Cortes then returned to Mexico with many honors and titles, but soon his power over the country started to decrease. After being accused as a criminal Cortes cleared his name and moved to silence.

Nationalism and the Creation of Italy

The nationalist by GameDreamer

Nationalism

Nationalism is the love for your country or an area which share the same history and culture. Language, currency, religion and other similarities between the people is other examples of nationalism. Strong nationalism is shown through the country army and patriotism through even the most difficult situations.
The idea of nationalism had moved during the revolutionary era. Spreading quickly after the American revolution many people died for the independence of their territory. After the 1800s nationalism even helped to create territories. Territories shown on maps today are the borderlines of each of the countries. Before the 1800s, you wouldn't know where one county began and where it ended.
One example of a major nationalism is the creation of Italy. Italy was created by nationalist and monarchists who declared war on the previous controllers, Austria. Giuseppe Garibaldi a leader who helped lead southern Italy while Camillo Benso led the north. With the help of Napoleon, Italy soon won its independence from the Austrian Empire.

Simon Bolivar and Latin American Revolutions

Simon Bolivar traveled all over the world and watched country's gaining independence from their rulers. Soon he returned to his birth place in Venezuela. As one of Venezuela's great generals he won independence for Bolivia, Panama, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, and Venezuela. He led South America to its independence as George Washington had lead North America to it. He goatherd many patriots and created a offensive against Spain. Simon had gone to Great Britain and tried to get their help but didn't prevail. Though Great Britain wouldn't help, they agreed to not intervene either. As Bolivar marched his men through each country he gained more and more support suddenly sending Latin America to its revolution era, with Latin America wining its campaign for independence.

John Locke and "The Enlightenment"

The picture shown above is a representation of the philosophers stone found in systematics.org

John Locke one of Britain's old philosophers. Known as one of the "Enlightenment Thinkers" john was widely known as well as a very influential figure to many revolutions. His ideas were so great that it was set as laws in our constitution. The deceleration of independence was a set of rules or standards that our forefathers had lane so we can continue in a peaceful government.

Most of Locke's work consisted about identity, study of "the self" and the theory of a consciousness was all explained by Locke. He also theorized that people were born with no intelligence and configured the idea of nurture vs nature. No dough Locke has layed one of mankind's most important finds, the ideas of them selves and a start of a line of many philosophers as well as scientists who were inspired by his work.

Copernicus and the trial of Galieo

picture >>thesituationist.wordpress.com<<

The Scientific Revolution

During the middle age which is during 500AD-1350AD the catholic church hides most Greek and Roman scientific belief and teaches their followers only on a religious state. The innocuous people start to finally find science and become more intelligent. The second period to the revolution increases during the Renaissance people started to study about humanism. Which lead the RCC(Roman Catholic Church) to go against most of their followers and loose half of them in the process. Martin Luther starts a revolt against the RCC, showing how the RCC sells indulgences. Then after that during the 16th century a fight between botany and anatomy starts. Soon scientist started thinking about unexplainable things and how the didnt seem true anymore. This lead on to the 18th century and thus the change of the global mindset during the 16th century to 18th century was called the scientific revolution. Copernicus was technically the start of the revolution and now we have proof for most of the things we know.

Nicolaus Copernicus
was the first astronomer to come up with the theory of a heliocentric universe. This theory talks about how the sun(instead of the earth) is in the center of the universe where everything else revolves around it because of its massive mass. Its gravitational pull is greater than that of any other object in the milky way since it is the biggest substance in the universe. Since ever object has its own gravitational pull something bigger always pulls the smaller substance to it, but everything in the earth does have its own gravitational pull but the earth has its own pull where everything else on its radiance revolves and is pulled by it.

Galileo Trial/Affair
The RCC commends heresy on Galileo because of his support to Copernicus's theory heliocentric. After observing through his telescope the proofs and faults of all the accusations, Galileo starts supporting heliocentric and soon becomes contradicted by the church. Since geocentric was a popular and most known theory, when people find that the earth does move they become astonished. Galileo was sentenced to house arrest for the rest of his life, where he continues his work and passed it on to his pupil. A book was soon wrote about Galileo and after that a reasearch academy was named after him, which made him very known.

Scientific Revolution: The Scientific Method

picture found in phdcomics.com (i just thought the picture was amusing).

THE SCIENTIFIC METHOD
The scientific method is a process that a scientist uses to test something. This strategy is used my scientists as a structural way to correctly experiment something. This is a way to investigate something you have a theory on but are not quite sure, using this method will clearly make you understand and if used correctly you can easily backtrack and have evidence on every detail of the experiment, as well as why and how and the answer.
The proper steps to the method:
-First ask a question
How will you know what your experimenting if you haven't come up with exact questions to see what you need to focus on finding?
-Second you need to now do background research
Well now you need to know what you are up against. Research and find somethings to start your experiment. Find out how you will start your experiment and figure out what you need and what you need to do.
-Third of coarse you need to lay down a hypothesis
Well now that you know your experiment and have an idea on what will most probably happen you need to write down what YOU think will happen. Get the practice of including this as a personal goal of learning from your background knowledge.
-Now test the experiment and the hypothesis
Ok now your getting somewhere, this is the fun part with the explosions. Get what you need to start your experiment and try and note the process of the experiment every step of the way and don't forget to have more then one subjects to the experiment because if one fails you will have another one to see if each other were done correctly.
-Analyze the data
The second to last step is to gather everything, including backtracking and use all of the data to make a conclusion.
-Finally you check and see if your hypothesis is correct
At last you see if you have guessed the result correctly, if so then don't worry the experiment was not a waste of time, now you know for sure the results and you also know how to test it as well as have all the collected data to back up your result.

A example of using the method:
When creators of a flavor mixing and creating company which mostly contributes to modern candy making companies make the flavor they need they always have to use the scientific method. The creators first think of a title for the new flavor and think of what kind to create as well as for who. They then think of how it will taste and attract customers for their funding company as a hypothesis. After that they will see how much trans fat will go into it and nutrition facts as well as search ingredients to get the flavor. Now they would mix and create a sample of the subject. The final test is taste, strength ,coloring ,form(liquid or powder or ect.) and fixation of the product. After getting a good grade-a matierial sample they will send to a mass producing factory and VOA-LA you have a new flavor ice cream, or candy, or even a new burger.

Evolution vs Creation

found in>>>>>http://krmenxa.deviantart.com/<<<<<
Evolution Theory

The theory of evolution is every living thing adapts and mutates to its surrounding changes and turns into a new species. Mostly everyone who is looking for a explanation to the past and has belief in logic believes in this theory. The fact that it is proven because of adaptation and remains of fossilized remains of animals that have evolved. Scientists also have found remains of prime apes that have almost the same bone structure as humans. The theory is the only lead we have which is explainable about humanities past. This theory was indirectly found by Charles Darwin, because he was the first one to prove evolution but he never enlisted human and ape evolution in his work. Even that said its what we choose to believe.

Creation Theory
The creation theory is religious belief that every thing we know that exists was and has been created by god(the creator). The theory in most popular religions is that man was created by god. The theory suggests in old religious books that Adam(in Arabic: mankind) and Eve(in Hebrew: the living one, as well as it means the mother of all living things) were the first woman and man to be created by god. Genesis(the story of Adam and eve) shows us that god makes The Garden of Eden in which he places the first man and woman in. The story then tells about how a Serpent was created and makes Adam and eve eat the fruit from the forbidden tree in the garden. God eventually gets angry and throws them out of the garden. Then Adam and Eve reproduces. Then starts a chain of creation where mankind starts growing

My Opinion
I personally don't care about the past because what has been done was a long time ago and which does not effect me in a very immense way, but if i would chose something to believe i would believe in Atheism(belief in no particular religion). See i do not support the theory of evolution and i also think that 40% of the world believes in evolution, 40% believe in creation and 20% now believe in other religious ideals including atheism. The thing is i really cant believe creation even though as living in a Muslim family i choose to follow my religion but not believe in it. I think that it really doesn't matter what you believe in just spending some quality time with others even if they have their beliefs matters more. We are here now and that's what matters to me. As well as the theory of evolution was proven it can not be helped if many species look similar, some may not be related at all even by ancestor and some may. So it doesnt completley explain, its just what it proclaims, it is a "theory".
This is only a opinion you are free to disagree or agree with me.
